1. What coffee brands do you recommend?

It all depends on personal preference. With the number of coffee brands growing so quickly, we recommend for you to experiment with the varieties available at your local supermarkets, weekend markets, cafes, etc. This way you will find the perfect coffee to make every cup one to look forward to.

2. Are coffee beans better or pre-ground coffee powder?

Freshly grinding your coffee beans just before brewing ensures you are extracting the freshest taste possible from those beans. As coffee beans release aromas and oil upon being broken up, these easily get lost the longer the wait between grinding and brewing. Of course, what’s most important is finding the beans perfect for your palette.

6. Why is my espresso not strong?

In terms of getting a stronger brew there are a few steps you can take:

  • Use darker beans. We recommend using a dark French roast which will give you a bolder and stronger espresso taste.
  • You will want to make sure your ground beans are finer but not powdery when rubbed between your fingers.
  • Tamp your beans more firm into the filter baskets so the extraction can pick up more of the espresso taste as it flows through the brew head.

In espresso making, each person has their own definition of the perfect shot. When preparing a shot it is all about trial and error until your find your desired taste. Play around with different bean types, grind sizes and tamp pressure and you soon find your perfect brew.
