Blinking or Solid Lights
The red indicator light is flashing
A flashing red light means the machine is either out of water or the brewhead is clogged. Several beeps will sound in succession.
If the water tank is empty:
- Remove the water tank and fill it with water, then place it back in the machine.
- Place a cup underneath the portafilter.
- Press any button. Water will run through the system into the cup. The beeping will stop and the red light should turn off after about 10 seconds. The blue function lights will appear solid once the machine is ready.
- If the blue lights don't come on, press the ON/OFF button. The machine will warm up (all blue lights flash for 30-40 seconds), then two beeps will sound when it's ready.
If the brewhead is clogged:
- Clean the brew head and the seal ring.
- Fill the water tank and place it back in the machine.
- Place a cup underneath - do not install the portafilter.
- Press the DOUBLE button. Water will run through the system. Repeat this 3-5 times.
- The red light should turn off and the blue function lights will appear solid.
Important: Do not unplug the machine or press buttons to interrupt the process. If the red light keeps flashing, repeat the steps 2-3 times. Also - always clean the brew head and seal ring after every use. Don't remove the portafilter until the blue function lights are on and water starts flowing into the drip tray. Releasing pressure too early scatters coffee grounds into the seal ring, which causes clogging and eventually leaking.
The red indicator light is solid (not flashing)
A solid red light means the machine is plugged into a socket with incorrect voltage or the power supply isn't stable.
- Make sure your power supply is stable at 120V, 1250W.
- Try a different wall socket.
If the solid red light persists after trying a different socket, contact us at cs@espresso-works.com.
The yellow indicator light is flashing
A flashing yellow light means the machine's internal system is clogged. This can happen if the machine hasn't been used for a while - there's a built-in program to prevent this, but if the yellow light appears, you'll need to run a deep clean.
Step 1:
- Fill the water tank and milk reservoir with water up to the MAX line. Install both in the machine.
- Place a large container (at least 1.5L capacity) under the brew head. Fold out the milk nozzle on the milk reservoir using the lever.
- Press and hold the CLEAN button for 4-5 seconds. The blue CLEAN light will start flashing.
- The cleaning cycle will run for approximately 15 minutes. The CLEAN light will appear solid when this step is done.
Step 2:
- Fill the water tank to the MAX level again.
- Press the CLEAN button once (about 1 second).
- This shorter cycle runs for 1-2 minutes.
- When complete, the yellow light will turn off after 2 beeps. The blue function lights will flash for up to 40 seconds as the machine warms up. When they appear solid, the machine is ready.
Note: The full deep clean takes about 20 minutes. It's normal for the machine to make rapid sounds during the process, and water will flow into the milk reservoir from the tank. Stay nearby to monitor and avoid any water spilling. Do not turn off the machine or press any buttons until each step completes.
Some of the blue function lights are off or buttons aren't responding
If the CAPPUCCINO, LATTE, MILK FROTH, and CLEAN function lights are off and those buttons aren't working, the milk reservoir isn't seated properly.
Remove the milk reservoir and reinsert it firmly. You should hear a "click" sound confirming it's securely in place. The function lights should come back on.
Water Leaking
Water is leaking from my machine
There are three common causes:
The drip tray is out of position
Make sure the drip tray is sitting flush and properly centred so it catches the excess water that flows out normally during brewing.
The water tank isn't seated properly
Remove the tank, fill it to the MAX line, and reinsert it snugly - there shouldn't be any gaps or open areas around the tank.
The water tank is overfilled
Water should not go above the MAX line. If it does, excess water has nowhere to go and will leak out. Pour off the extra and reseat the tank.
If the leak persists after checking all three, please contact us at cs@espresso-works.com.
Factory Reset
How do I reset my machine to factory settings?
If your machine is behaving unexpectedly and the troubleshooting steps above haven't resolved the issue, a factory reset can return it to its original settings.
- Switch off the machine. Do not unplug it from the power source.
- Press and hold the SINGLE and DOUBLE buttons on the control panel at the same time.
- While holding both buttons, press the ON/OFF button.
- 5 beeps will sound, confirming the machine has been reset to factory settings.
Note: After resetting, you'll need to unlock the machine again before you can brew. Follow the unlocking steps in the Setup & How-To Guide.
