Delicious Foods That Go Well With Coffee

Delicious Foods That Go Well With Coffee - Coffee Life, a coffee blog by EspressoWorks

In many European cultures, breakfast doesn’t consist of bacon and eggs or hash browns, but simply coffee and a dessert: a cappuccino with a cannolo in Southern Italy, a croissant with French roast coffee in Paris. Coffee, however, is enjoyable any time of the day, and sweets are not the only culinary pleasures that coffee lovers can savor. Here are some delicious options for food with coffee.

Sweets

Tiramisu

While the famous cannolo (orcannoli if one wants more than one) is a Sicilian staple, tiramisu is a rich dessert that originated in the Veneto region of Northeastern Italy and often uses espresso as one of its ingredients. And tiramisu with a cappuccino is a choice.

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate offers a rich combination of sweetness and light bitterness, and it works well with a variety of coffee beverages — which could be anything from French-stylecafé au lait to a shot ofespresso Italiano.

Coffee cake

Coffee cake has that name for a reason: it is commonly enjoyed with coffee. And its ingredients, which can range from sour cream to cinnamon to walnuts, make it the perfect food to combo with coffee.

Tapioca Pudding

Tapioca Pudding, also called rice pudding, contains a variety of spices and flavors that go well with robust coffee — including vanilla and cinnamon. Dark roast coffees work especially well with tapioca pudding, but a medium roast is an equally tasty option.

Donuts

The pairing of coffee and donuts is a time-honored tradition, and there are many foods with coffee options for doughnuts — from chocolate donuts to cinnamon donuts to jelly doughnuts. Have you tried dipping the donut in the coffee? You really need to...

Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Making a peanut butter and banana sandwich is not difficult. All it takes is combining two slices of bread with banana slices and peanut butter. And once this rich, creamy sandwich has been assembled, it can easily be enjoyed with an equally rich cup of coffee.

Quick tip: You could make this a double-decker sandwich and add in a slice of coffee-soaked bread or coffee cake between the layers.

Berries

Technically, berries are a fruit rather than a dessert. But they are sweet, and they can be an appealing part of a food with coffee combination. A sweeter coffee typically works best when you’re enjoying it with some berries.

Savory

Scrambled Eggs

Scrambled eggs are a breakfast favorite in the U.K. as well as the U.S. and Canada, and they can be seasoned with a variety of ingredients — including onions, bell peppers, sweet peppers, salt and tomatoes. But however they are seasoned, hearty scrambled eggs are a food with coffee favorite - just dont mix them together on the plate.

Bacon

While the European continental breakfast is light and basic, a full North American breakfast is much heartier — especially when it includes bacon. In North America, bacon — which is often enjoyed with eggs — is as much a part of breakfast as coffee. And bacon, with its salty and fatty taste, is the ideal food with coffee companion.

Smoked Salmon

Because smoked salmon has an intense and robust flavor, it works especially well with strong coffee. And that includes smoked salmon placed on a toasted bagel with some vegetable cream cheese.

Cottage Cheese

Coffee works just as well with lighter breakfasts as it does with heartier ones, and a bowl of cottage cheese is ideal when one is in the mood for a lighter food with coffee breakfast. With its subtle taste, cottage cheese is perfectly compatible with a cup of light roast coffee.

Hard Cheeses

There are numerous options when it comes to cheese, from delicate and subtle cheeses to hard cheeses. And if you’re enjoying strong coffee, it is important to combine it with a harder cheese such as Swiss or cheddar — as a more delicate or understated cheese can easily be overwhelmed by strong, rich coffee. When strong coffee is combined with a harder and more intense cheese, it’s an excellent food with a coffee combination.

Grilled Cheese

Grilled cheese isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of food with coffee, but in fact, the right type of coffee can complement a grilled cheese sandwich beautifully. The trick is to combine grilled cheese with coffee that is rich, strong, and robust; that way, one strong flavor is complementing another.

Sweet or Savory

Crepes

In France, the wordcrêperie refers to small restaurants where crepes are served, and crepes are often enjoyed with French-stylecafé au lait. Crepes fall into two main categories: sweet crepes and non-sweet savory crepes, which can include a variety of meats, cheeses, and vegetables.

Bagels

Like crepes, bagels can be either sweet or savory. Cinnamon and chocolate bagels are sweet favorites, but a savory bagel with cream cheese is equally delicious and has long been a staple in Jewish delis. And whether they’re sweet, savory, or both, bagels are highly compatible with rich coffee.

When it comes to food with coffee, the options — whether sweet, savory, or both — are limitless.
